Challenge

I was commissioned to design and paint a bespoke mural on the store’s glass facade in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Additionally, I created exclusive artist prints and merchandise for purchase, further extending the visual narrative of the installation.

Background

Two Two is an Oakland-based concept space where art, fashion, ceramics, and jewelry intersect. Founded in 2022 by CC Doan, it showcases the work of 50 independent artists and makers. CC regularly invites artists to host exhibitions and workshops, fostering craft and experimentation within the community.

As the lead artist for a theme of creative renewal and restoration, I expanded one of my original Rhythmic Butterfly images into a large-scale mural covering most of the store’s glass facade. I also produced exclusive inkjet prints—marking the first public release of these digitally-created works—and designed a special edition print exploring my excavation of subconscious truths. To accompany the exhibition, I prepared a 45-minute artist talk reflecting on my nine-year artistic journey.

Implementation

The mural installation and exhibition came together over three days, requiring meticulous planning to apply stencils and paint onto the glass surface. Throughout the process, passersby and community members stopped to engage with the work in progress, sparking conversations about the art and its themes.

Results

The opening reception took place on January 25, 2025, with a sold-out audience for my artist talk. Over the course of four hours, more than 100 attendees gathered, making the event a success in uniting the broader artistic community in the East Bay.
